Kmart Doubles in KC Next Week (Starting May 3rd)

Woohoo! I just got off the phone with Kmart corporate and the rumors circulating on the web are true. The advance ad that's available here is a misprint. All the KMart stores in KC are doubling coupons but the limit is $2.00 instead of $0.75. That means that a $2.00 coupon will be worth $4.00. The promotion will run from May 3rd to May 9th.

Prices seem to be higher but, if you've been following my blog, you know that we still pulled in quite a haul when Kmart did doubles up to $4 a couple of weeks ago. Now I've got to start making my list for next week!

Why so serious?

Saving money can really become an addiction. Walking out of the store after paying very little for an arm full of items can give you quite a rush. But if you're spending hours every week and possibly even spending more than you normally would, then it's not a good thing. Alyssa over at Keeping the Kingdom First has a great post here about how to not take CVS too seriously, but her comments really apply to any store. So smile and relax and remember what really matters in life.

3M MoneyMaker at CVS

3M Command Hooks are on sale this week at CVS for $2.50 and, if you buy $15 worth, you'll get a $5 ECB. If you can find the metal finish ones, use the printable coupon from the 3M website to get them free. You'll need to buy 6 to get to $15.00 and get the ECB. If you can't find all 6 at one store, don't despair - the CVS system remembers how many you have bought so, when you get to 6, you'll get the $5 ECB.

Transaction 1 (DH's card - 1st store)
6 3M command hooks, $2.50 each, used six $2.50 coupons = FREE
2 Gold Emblem peanut clusters, $0.99 each, used $2/2 CVS CRT = FREE

Transaction 2 (my card, different store)
3 3M command hooks, $2.50 each, used three $2.50 coupons = FREE
4 Gold Emblem peanut clusters, $0.99 each, used two $2/2 CVS CRTs = FREE
Used $2 off $10 CVS brand purchase (**)
1 Belfonte milk gallon, $3.19
Final Price: $1.41 for the gallon of milk!

(**) An interesting thing happened at the first store. I handed the $2/2 nuts CRT to the cashier and ended up placing my card and the $2 off $10 CRT on the counter with my card and gift card. When she started to take the $2/10 CRT, I told her it wouldn't work because I didn't have $10 worth of CVS products. She winked and said "watch this!". It scanned! She had to take it off, though, because it gave me $2.00 overage. A valuable lesson, though, which I used at the second store to get cheap milk.

Now I have to go hunting for just 3 more of those hooks so that I can get the ECB on my card.

Can there be too much of a good thing?

My sweetie and I hit the streets early this morning to take advantage of the fact that Walgreens is paying people to buy glucose meters. The deal is:

  • Buy 1 Bayer Breeze2 or Contour glucose meter for $14.99
Use "up to $30" coupon from 3/15 RP
Final Price: FREE + receive a $5 RR!
I bought some additional coupons off eBay last week to get ready for this. The bad part is that were getting frustrated because every store only had 2 meters, so it took us about an hour to accumulate all of these. It almost became a treasure hunt through Kansas City, with us giggling every time we found one.

I'm going to see about selling the strips out of the Contours on eBay and then I'll be donating the meters and all of the Breeze2's. If you're paying attention, you'll notice that one is already missing out of the picture. We met a SUPER nice cashier at Walgreens over on 23rd and Sterling in Independence and she mentioned several times while she was ringing up that she wanted to get one of these because they don't have to be coded. So I asked her if she wouldn't mind letting us buy the last 2 on the shelf and I would give her one of them. She said she couldn't ring me up and then take the merchandise but that her manager could, so she called him and we got her the meter! We were in a hurry to do more hunting, but I should have gotten her name or given her my phone number so that I could give her more. I'm going to stop by later this week and talk to her about it.

Note for my DH: THANK YOU, honey, for putting up with this and for helping me buy all these meters. You're a sweetheart and I love you.

So is this too much of a good thing? Not at $70 profit, in my opinion. And I've got 1 coupon left. Besides, this isn't much compared to Frugalsuz's extreme Walgreening!

Saturday Night Fever at CVS

I swore off CVS last week. Really, I did. But that 10 off $50 CRT that DH got last weekend kep staring at me. I didn't get the $5 off $15 Tresemme coupon that other folks reported getting, but I *did* get the $3 off any 2 hair care products CRT. I..tried...to...resist....!

NOTE: These deals are no longer valid (they ended Saturday night).

Transaction 1
  • 3 Tresemme 24-Hour Body conditioners, sale was 3 for $10
Used three $1 printable coupon for Tresemme
Used $3 off hair care CRT
Final Price: $4.00 and got $5 ECB = $1.00 moneymaker!

Transaction 2
  • 3 Tresemme 24-Hour Body shampoos, sale was 3 for $10
  • 3 Tresemme color thrive shampoos\conditioners, 3 for $10
  • Aveeno Positively Radiant cleansing pads, $7.00
  • 2 Aveeno daily brightening scrubs, $7.00 each
  • 2 Aveeno moisturing lotions, $2.99 each
  • 2 Gold Emblem almonds, $0.99 each
  • Bayer quick release crystals, $2.00
  • Used six $1 printable coupon for Tresemme
  • Used $10 off 3 printable coupon for Aveeno (must register)
  • Used $5 off 2 printable coupon for Aveeno (must register)
  • Used $2 off 2 CVS CRT
  • Used $10 off $50 CVS CRT
Final Price: $17.67 and got $22 ECB ($10 for Aveeno and $10 for Tresemme) = $4.33 moneymaker!

Not bad for someone that is used to paying $16 per bottle for shampoo. I won't be doing that any more!

Dove and Aveeno cheapies at CVS

Deal Seeking Mom's provided us with a great list of CVS and Walgreens deals for this week. I have no ECB or RR expiring this week and I originally thought that the deals weren't all that great until I saw this post. I just had to try it, especially since CVS challenged me with the $4 off $20 beauty purchase, $5 off Lumene, $3 off hair care, $5 off $30 (my card) and $5 off $50 (DH's card).

This is what got me heading to CVS after work last night:

1st Transaction

  • 5 Dove Skinvitalizer, reg. $12.99, on sale for $4.00 = $20.00

  • Milk 1/2 gallon, $1.89

  • Double-stuff Oreos (my DF loves these), on sale 2/$5 = $2.50
- $4 off $20 beauty purchase CVS CRT (expired 4/19 but my CVS takes expired Qs)
- (4) $3.75/1 Dove Skinvitalizer printable coupons and (1) $3.50 coupon (3/15 RP)

Total = $1.89 + $0.14 = $2.03 OOP

2nd Transaction
  • 1 Aveeno Clear Complexion facial cleanser, reg. $7.99, on sale for $7.00

  • 2 Aveeno Positively Radiant 28-count cleansing pads, reg. $7.99, on sale for $7.00 = $14.00

  • 2 Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion 2.5 0z, $2.99 each = $5.98

  • 1 Lumene cleansing wipes, $2.99
- $5 off $30 CVS CRT
- $10/3 Aveeno printable coupon (must register)
- Two $2/1 Aveeno printable coupons (must register)
- $5 off any Lumene CVS CRT (gave +$2.01 overage)

Total = $5.97 + $0.46 tax = $6.43 OOP and received $10 ECB = $3.57 moneymaker!

So I got everything for free and came out making about $1.50 on the whole deal. Aveeno is awesome and I am so stoked that I was able to do this. I still have some

I heart Kmart!

I was too lazy to take a pic of our "haul" that we brought back from Kmart yesterday. Sorry! The store wasn't picked over yet because we went early, but there wasn't alot of stock on some of the good items. There were TONS of fellow couponers there with their binders and coupon boxes, and it's always really interesting to see how other folks organize their deals. And I think couponers must be the friendliest people in the world, because we were all saying hi to each other!

Remember: coupons up t0/including $0.75 will TRIPLE, and $0.76 to $4 will DOUBLE.

Here's what we bought home:
  • Beneful dog food, 31 lb. bag, reg. $24.99 - used $3.50 printable coupon to $7 = $17.99
** This coupon specifically said "Do Not Double" and KMart said they would not double Internet printable coupons, but the register did this automatically.

  • 6 boxes Soft Scrub pads, on sale 2/$5 - used $1.50/1 coupon (from 3/8 SS) = FREE
  • Degree men's deodorant, reg. $2.99, on sale 2/$5 - used $0.75 coupon (from 3/1 RP)= $0.25
  • Band aids, $2.49 - used $1.00/1 coupon (fro m2/8 SS or 3/15 SS) = $0.49
  • 1 Softsoap ensemble base, $2.00 - used $1 coupon (from All You magazine?) = $0.99
  • 2 2000 Flushes, $3.19 - used $0.55 tripled = $1.54 each (DH really wanted these)
  • 4 Oust cans, $3.99, on sale 2/$6 - used $2 coupon (from 3/29 SS) = FREE
  • 6 Finish Quantum dishwasher pacs, $4.79 - used $2.50 coupon (from 4/5 SS) = FREE
  • 3 Mean Green cleaners, $2.19 - used $0.50 (from 2/1 SS) = $0.69 each (DH wanted these too)
Total was $83-something, used the $5 off $50 coupon, and final OOP was $25.09.
Looking for deals? My fellow bloggers have done a fabulous job of doing Kmart coupon matchups here, here, here, here. (Thanks, StLMommy, Hip2Save, BeingFrugalisFabulous, and CommonSenseWithMoney!)

My army of teenie deodorants

I was so busy getting ready for Kmart doubles\triples that I forgot to post this on Saturday. Hopefully, everyone saw that the trial size deodorants were working for the Walgreens "buy 4, get $4, buy 6, get $6 RR" deal last week. I had a hey day (as you can see)!

I'm really not that stinky - the deal (which is dead now) on the mini-Degree and mini-Doves was that they were $0.99 and I had $1 coupons, making them free. Buy 6 and get a $6 RR.

Everything in this pic was free or a moneymaker. Now on to this week's deals.

FREE CFL lightbulbs at Home Depot on 4/19

As part of Earth Week, Home Depot is giving away a free energy-saving CFL lightbulb to its customers on Sunday, April 19th. Limited to supplies on hand with no rainchecks, so get there early!

Finally! K-Mart Double and Triple Coupons

UPDATE: Looks like Kansas City stores are doubling coupons of up to $4.00 in value!

After hearing for quite some time about stores in other parts of the country doubling and even tripling coupons, now it's our turn here in Kansas and Missouri from April 19th through the 25th. First, the rules:

  • Coupons up to and including $0.75 will be automatically tripled in value (so a $0.50 becomes $1.50)
  • Coupons up to and including $2.00 $4.00 will be automatically doubled in value. (so a $3.50 becomes a $7.00!)
  • No internet printables (at least they don't normally accept them)
  • No more than 4 of the same item per transaction
  • Doesn't include "buy 1 get 1" coupons or Kmart coupons
  • Limit of 25 coupons per person per day
Here's a list of the KC and regional stores that are participating:

Kmart #600 on Northeast Barry Road in north KC, 64155
Kmart #5615 on Bannister Road in south KC, 64137
Kmart #4220 2821 on Northeast Vivion Road in north KC, 64119
Kmart #4427 16200 on East US Highway 24 in Independence, 64056
Kmart #9336 4023 on South Noland Road in Independence, 64055

There's a savings book at the Customer Service desk of each K-Mart that has over $30 woth of coupons on it, so it might be worth a stop before the 19th to pick up a copy. Also, remember you can also sign up for KMart's emails and receive a $5.00 in store and online coupon to take with you!

CVS: Water is the basis of life - or is it Sobe?

Not alot going on at CVS for me this week. I don't have any ECBs expiring and I'm just plain worn out with all the shopping - Wags is going to wear me out with trying to roll all those RRs from the Chapstick, Colgate, Visine and Reach. I saw a post somewhere about the Adidas deodorants being moneymakers, so had to check that out and I wanted to try the Sobe out as well. Here's some treasurers that I came up with this weekend:

  • Colgate Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste, $3.99, used $1.00 printable coupon and got back $3.99 ECB (Limit 2) = $1.00 moneymaker
  • 3 Adidas Intensive Deodorants clearanced to $2.50 each, used three $1 coupons (4/5 RP) and got back $6 ECB ($2 each, monthly deal, limit 3) = $1.50 moneymaker
  • 4 Sobe Life Waters $1.59 each, BOGO sale, used two BOGO coupons = FREE
  • Really cool laptop table on wheels (like a TV tray on steroids), originally $24.99 on sale for 75% off = $6.25

DealSeekingMom's done a great job of posting the deals at CVS for this week so check out her post here if you're planning on heading out for shopping.

Women are half chocolate, you know

It's true. That's why we have to eat chocolate - it's because, as we go through our daily lives as mothers, sisters, friends, bosses and co-workers, our chocolate levels somehow become depleted by all the silliness we put up with and we have to replenish. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Luckily, Walgreens is there to save the day with 1/2 price Easter candy. So here's the deal: buy 4 bags of Hershey's Bliss Easter candy on sale for $2.00 per bag and use four of the $1.00 off 1 coupons from the 3/1 SS. Your total OOP will be $4.00 plux tax. THEN submit for the monthly EasySaver rebate of $5 when you buy 4. That's free chocolate plus you made $1!

Would Wags drop the price on this even lower later this week? You betcha, but there won't be any left on the shelves. I left 5 sitting there and the cashier asked if they were out yet because he was "tired of ringing these up". He said someone had come in just before me and "bought about a hundred". Wow, I thought *I* was a chocoholic.

Does the Easter Bunny bring coupons?

There will be NO coupon inserts this weekend because of the Easter holiday. I just cancelled my subscription to the Star because they're raising rates and decreasing the paper size - not to mention several of my papers have been missing at least one coupon insert. (Oh, the humanity!) So no papers for me this weekend.

I, for one, will be enjoying this little mini coupon vacation because I'm behind on my clipping for the last two weekends. Last's weekend's 5 inserts killed me! I'm also planning on getting another binder and splitting up the grocery coupons and the "pharmacy" coupons because I'm just out of space. Look for a post on my organization methods soon...

I hope everyone enjoys their Easter!

Great Taste, Big Savings!

Purchase five participating products between 4/5/09 and 5/5/09, and mail in this rebate form to receive $5 in coupons for a future purchase. You can do this rebate up to six times per household! Here are the participating products:

CVS clearance (Saturday)

Sorry, I was up so late last night trying to get ready for today's new deals that I was too pooped to post my CVS trip for you. I had $10 ECBs on DBF's card that were expiring and they had a ton of great stuff on clearance. Lots of toys, including a really cool child's telescope for $3.

I ended up "doing the Ponds deal" and putting some Pepsi coupons to use:

  • 2 Sierra Mist and 2 Mountain Dew 2-liters, sale 4/$5, used two $2 coupons from the Pepsi rebate deal
  • 3 ruled tablets, on clearance for $.25each. ** These also had hangtags on them for $1 off when you buy 4 from CVS
  • 2 Rubbermaid round containers, at 75% clearance for $.37 each
  • 2 sets of 2 16-quart plastic storage boxes, at 75% clearance for $1.99 each (great for the pantry)
  • 3 Ponds age-defying towelettes, $7.29, on sale for $3.99 each, used three $1.50 MQs = $1.99 each
Used $$10.98 in ECBs and got back $5 ECBs for the Ponds.

I know some couponers are probably cringing at my using those coupons on 2-liters, but we really aren't soda drinkers. I can take these 2-liters to work for our chili days and pie contest days, and I got them for about 33 cents each!

This Sunday's Paper will have 4 Coupon Inserts!

And there won't be any inserts in the April 12th paper because of Easter. I usually buy 5 copies every weekend and rely on friends and co-workers to give me theirs so I have plenty of each coupon, but this weekend is a stock-up weekend! I may buy 10 copies of the paper this time. A fellow couponer I met in Independence routinely gets 20, can you believe that!?

CouponClippers has the list of coupons that will be in each insert here. Remember, if you're local, the Independence Examiner is half the price of the Star and it's available on Saturday. So you can clip this weekend's coupons early to get ready for those early Sunday morning shopping trips.

Maggie Moo's makes Tax Day easier with FREE ice cream

Maggie Moo's is one of my favorite ice cream shops but I sometime drive out of my way to avoid it so I won't be tempted to stop in so much. I posted earlier about 31 cent scoop night coming up at Baskin Robbins later this month and now Maggie Moo's is jumping on the free ice cream wagon with thir own offer. On April 15, they will be giving away a FREE single-scoop cone. To find your closest treatery, click here.

FREE Chicken Sandwich at Arby's

Woohoo! Arby's just keeps churning out the deals for us. They've now got a coupon for a free chicken sandwich when you purchase waffle fries at regular price.

$5 off $25 at True Value Hardware

Finally some Spring weather! It's supposed to be in the mid-60s here in KC tomorrow, so this hound will be outside getting some pre-emergent and fertilizer down on the lawn and cleaning out those flower beds.

True Value is helping to get us started with this $5 off $25 coupon. Get one while you can!

Also, there's a mail-in rebate on the Scott's Turfbuilder program right now where you can get up to $35 back depending on how much of the 4-step program you purchase. Lowe's, Home Depot and TrueValue all have this, so check your store for details!
