Cinco de Mayo is fast approaching, so it's not surprising to see sales on products from Taco Bell or Old El Paso. What I *am* surprised about, however, is that there don't seem to be any coupons to go along with the nationwide Catalina deal on Old El Paso products. Through 5/16/10, just purchase any Old El Paso taco shells, dinner kits, seasoning, refried beans or Heat and Serve beans or side dishes and you'll get back a Catalina for $1.00 off beef (when you buy 3 to 5 products) or $3.00 off beef or chicken (when you buy 6 or more).
Right now, Old El Paso products are on sale at Hy-Vee:
- Old El Paso taco shells or refried beans, $0.99
- Old El Paso seasoning mix, $0.69
- Old El Paso Heat and Serve Fiesta Rice or Beans, $1.38
Deal Scenario: (simple)
Buy 3 OEP seasoning mixes at $0.69 each = $2.07
Final Total: $2.07 and get back a $1.00 Catalina for chicken or beef
Deal Scenario 2: (more complicated!)
Buy OEP taco shells, $0.99
Buy 2 OEP Heat and Serve beans or rice at $1.38 each = $2.76
Buy 3 OEP seasoning mix packets at $0.69 each = $2.07
Final Total: $5.82 and get back a $3.00 Catalina
Then turn around and use the $3.00 Catalina to buy your chicken or beef. There are no great deals on the 1 lb packages (chicken and ground chuck are around $2.77). However, if you're not scared of a lot of hamburger, the 3 lb packs are ground beef are $4.98. So, after coupon, you'd get it for just $0.66 per pound! And you can always break it into 1-lb packs and freeze it if you can't use it all at one. You could also use this later on a smaller package and get overage to use on another product if you wanted (e.g., buy a $1.50 package of beef and you'd have $1.50 that would apply to something else, like milk!)
These aren't incredible deals like we had last year, so now let's hope for some coupons to come out soon to make this even sweeter!
