Best of Walgreens for May 9th to 15th (with New Rewards Program Info!)

I'm actually glad that Walgreens deals are a little boring this week, since CVS has some insane deals AND Walgreens is rolling out the new Rewards program. Now that the pilot ad is out (see it here courtesy of iheartwags), we know a little more about how it will work. The regular ad and the ad for the pilot areas (including Kansas City!) are identical, so we'll still get the same Register Rewards deals.

But I digress....let's get the regular deals out of the way, then scroll down for NEW info on the new rewards program pilot. (Did I mention that Kansas City is a pilot area?!?!)

Pilot of NEW Walgreens Rewards Program (ad info, etc.)
Okay, here's what we know about the new program so far:
  1. You need to register - it's FREE!
  2. You'll need to request a card be mailed to you or you can choose to pick it up in store
  3. For every $1.00 you spend, you'll get 10 points
  4. Accumulate points to get various rewards (2000 points for a $5.00 Walgreens gift certificate, 3000 points for Amazon and other gift cards, etc.)
I mentioned above that the ads look the same - you can see the regular national ad here and the pilot ad here. (Thanks to iheartwags for the scans!) There is one SMALL difference though - the pilot ad has points information for selected ad items. Here's an example:

So not only will we get the regular Register Rewards deals (for now anyway - not sure if that will change or not), but we also have the opportunity to earn other rewards through this pilot program. In the ad above, we know that we'll earn 5x the normal amount of points if we buy 2. Remember, each $1.00 spent is normally worth 10 points but, since we're getting 5x points, each $1.00 spent (on this item only) is now worth 50 points! So the deal would look like this:

Buy 2 Windex at $2.49 each = $4.98
$4.98 x 50 points = 249 points
249 points = $0.62 toward a $5.00 gift card
(remember 2000 points are needed for the GC)

So what DON'T we know about the program?
  1. How do coupons affect the total spent? Theoretically, you should get points on the total *before* coupons, but we'll have to test that out.
  2. What happens if there are fractions of a point? For example, when we spend $1.99, does it round down to 19 points or up to 20?
The program starts tomorrow, so we'll find out shortly! In the meantime, here are the ad items that have points associated with them (with coupon matchups, of course!)
